This year, Den Hartogh Logistics has again decided not to send Christmas postcards to its business contacts and to donate the corresponding amount to four local charities chosen and handed by Young Den Hartogh. All Young Den Hartogh candidates were invited to donate €1.000,- to a local charity. This year's charities are: Vluchtelingenwerk, Abrigo Cristo Redentor, Kids and the Palliative care center in Krakow.
Christmas donation handed by Michelle Slobbe and Luke van de Bunt to Vluchtelingenwerk
Vluchtelingenwerk is a Dutch charity which helps refugees from first arrival to integration in the Dutch society. This year's YDH theme, multicultural communication, is very important in this process.
Refugees have to get familiar with and participate in the Dutch culture. On the other hand, also the Dutch have to get used to the new language and habits of the refugees. As Vluchtelingenwerk supports this integration, we would like to support the charity.

Abrigo Cristo Redentor
Christmas donation handed by Vanessa Almeida to Abrigo Cristo Redentor, Rio de Janeiro. Abrigo Cristo Redentor is a state's asylum located in a very poor region in Rio called Manguinhos. The asylum houses 300 elderly people, all of them under protective measure. This means all of them suffered from some kind of abuse and were rescued by the state.
Recently, with the state's economic crisis the asylum had a great decrease in its funds. It is being kept open mostly by donations and voluntary work of the community. They were all very thankful for Den Hartogh's Christmas donation.

Christmas donation handed by Francesca Pell to Kids
"I know from personal experience what wonderful work this charity offers children with disabilities here in the UK, as I started volunteering for the charity when I was 14 years old and have worked in various different capacities within the organisation since then.
The theme of our YDH 2017 project is to improve communication within a multicultural organisation. Similarly, some children with disabilities experience communication challenges on a daily basis and I'm hoping this donation will help overcome some of those barriers. Thank you! Best regards, Francesca"
Palliative care center in Krakow
Christmas donation chosen by Katarzyna Zurek is the Palliative care center in Krakow.
"I would like to donate the money to the palliative care center in Krakow. This is a special place for people in the ending stadium of cancer and other uncured diseases. I chose this place because I saw the needs of basic products like mattresses, diapers and oxygen masks during the time my Mum stayed there in her last month of her life.
All people working there are very warm and nice persons. Nurses are taking care of patients 24 hours a day, giving patients and their families psychological support and care during this this difficult time of their life. I hope this money will help a little in getting some basic equipment making easier the suffering."
Best regards, Katarzyna
